Wellness In the Wild
“In the Wild is designed to restore your mind, body and soul. ”
The first step is achieving a state of relaxation.
In the Wild aligns body and soul amidst the centuries-old forest, whose natural energy radiates throughout the landscape. Guests emerge with a sense of connection and calm, reflective in the rare stillness and transformed by the healing power of the forest.
The Forest Bistro
Table to Forest
“It’s growing vegetables together with nature, and taking care of nature somehow while you’re doing it,” explained Sancia Medicine, a braided, indigenous Willapa gardener, born and raised just 20 minutes away, whose bare feet bore evidence of her connection with the land.
“We’re so close to nature, there’s an abundance of things you can find and use,” she said. Those things include berries, apples, mushrooms and wild herbs such as horsetail and sorrel. The basket that carried the foraged foods, was also made with foraged materials — woven our of reeds picked from the east side of the island.
At a time when every new restaurant is expected to have a concept, In the Wild has a cause. More than simply a restaurant, or a nature resort, this place in the wilderness attempts to change the world by example in some small way. Meals produce no waste, no chemicals are used, and the water for washing is reused in the gardens. The implicit goal is to provide more nourishing and better tasting all-natural food grown, foraged or caught by us, for us.
“Sometimes, all it takes is a quiet moment in the woods with a roaring, crackling fire to spark an epiphany that will change everything”
The kitchen at Forest Bistro today features an arsenal of fiery tools including a pit of open flames, for cooking with cast-iron pans and also directly in the flames; a wood-fire oven for baking bread and desserts; a traditional cast-iron stove heated with fire, of the sort you might still find in a country home; a smoker for cold smoking techniques; and what Jaffe calls a “stone-age microwave” – a small oven that heats up quickly when embers are added, which is used for hot-smoking fish with juniper, among other things.
Each casita is integrated in the forest. Canvas walls allow the sounds of the birds, trees and wind to soothe your mind as you are falling asleep or waking up. Roll up with walls in the morning to see the forest that surrounds you. The casitas are spread out over 10 acres and designed for privacy, so you can enjoy the open design without feeling exposed.

The Experience
“Each day we would wake up and experience something new — Forest yoga, the floating sauna, a massage or soak in the hot water in the Forest Onsen. Some days we would fly fish, canoe or hike. Other days we never left our hammocks except to refill our cocktail glass. ”
Shinrin-Yoku
Shinrin-Yoku is merely meandering through the forest. Take a moment to appreciate nature. Listen to the forest sounds- the birds, leaves, trickling streams. Breathe in clean, fragrant air. Let the stillness around you influence your state of mind in this complete sensory experience.
Relaxation Spaces
While wandering through the forest, you will stumble relaxation and reflection spaces, set up for you to comfortably take in the natural healing properties In the Wild.
Early Morning Forest Yoga
Forest yoga is a perfect collaboration of meditation, Shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) and traditional yoga poses. Forest yoga clears your mind. You become a part of the forest, connected to all living things, channeling the healing elements of the forest that surrounds you. This complete sensory experience is transformational.

“Away from the smog in cities, our hearts are drawn west, where the only dust is earth, and the only barrier is the sky. Head west for the silence that roars from a wild heart.”
