Nature and Music come together

Violist and therapist Anna Schaum guides musicians through a healing journey in the wilderness in this unique and highly specialized week-long workshop. In the stillness of the wilderness, learn to bring your focus inside yourself. Listen for your rhythm. Recognize your notes. Feel your vibrations. Harness your music.

Our minds and bodies know exactly what we need to thrive, we just need to learn the language, listen and trust that our body speaks the truth.

As a musician, we learn a note. We practice until its perfect. In a symphony, we play those same notes as a group, and we can recognize when we are in harmony and when we are not. In this workshop, Anna will teach you how to bring this same awareness within to listen to your internal symphony. Like a symphony, you are made up of different sections (mind, body, spirit), and each section must be fine-tuned and balanced for a true harmony.

Listen, embrace, tune, and take control. Identify the sections or instruments in yourself and in your life that are out of tune. Harmonize your life.

‘There’s not a ticket stub, there’s just a memory.’

Andante follows the cellist Ruth Boden as she climbs 10,000 feet to a peak in Oregon’s Wallowa Mountains for a deeply personal, yet breathtakingly public solo performance. With her prized cello strapped to her back, Boden reflects on how she wants to do something with music that transcends the commonplace, and on the particular joy of playing from Bach’s cello suite at ‘the top of the world’.

IN A LANDSCAPE

Classical Music in the Wild is an outdoor concert series in stunning landscapes that showcase Oregon industry, history and culture. We bring a 9-foot Steinway grand piano to the middle of forests, fields, calderas and historical sites for classical music concerts. To meet the acoustical challenges of performing in the wild, music is transmitted to the concert-goers via wireless headphones. No longer confined to seats, they can explore the landscape, wander through secret glens, lie in sunny meadows, and roam old growth forests.
