Latex and coconut coir

Cotton is a material that has been used for many, many years and proved its excellent properties. Cotton fibers allow air circulation and a pleasant feeling to the touch. However a cotton mattress tends to sag with the years and dust mites easily grow in cotton.

Wool is another material used in mattresses and we mean organic wool, of course. It offers the advantage of keeping away moisture but requires maintenance and some people are allergic to wool.

Natural latex one usually have coconut fibers to improve their rigidity. Latex mattresses offer a number of advantages and the comfort that they provide is highly appreciated by many people. Durability is another great advantage. Natural latex mattresses do not retain odors as well. On the downside is the fact that they are firm and heavier than others. The price is another factor, as natural latex mattresses are one of the most expensive types on the market.

Coconut fibers (coir) are a material, with exceptional strength and wear resistance. The fibers are woven, flattened into layers and coated with natural latex to create a water-repelling and germ-resistant base. Natural mattresses filled with coconut coir offer flexibility and strong orthopedic support for the body, replacing the need for metal springs. In addition, a coconut coir is very durable and will last for decades.

Heating Water with a Wood Burning Sauna

There are some great ways to get “free” hot water from your wood burning sauna stove.

Sauna hot water tanks can provide plenty of hot water for hot showers using heat that is already being generated from wood stoves for the sauna session.  They provide a more sustainable way to bathe and can provide an awesome indoor or outdoor shower experience year-round.

The Easy Way: Buy an Chimney Tank Attachment

The easiest and most fool-proof way to get hot water in your sauna is to simply purchase an attachment for your sauna heater.

Harvia has a hot water tank that fits between the wood stove and the chimney.  You can check the price and buy it here on Amazon.

It will work for any wood burning stove and is a convenient way to have hot water available in the sauna or to fill a bucket for a cowboy shower.

If placed high enough, the water could potentially be piped to a shower head for a proper shower.

Lamppa Kuuma wood burning stoves offer a couple different attachments including a simple holding tank that attaches to the side of the stove or a copper coil system that would connect to a separate holding tank.

Polar sells a wood burning stove manufactured by Tylo with a built in hot water tank that you can find here.
